The BEND lamps seek to achieve visual thinness and functional simplicity with minimal means. Using only a single piece of ½” steel tubing, both the desk and floor lamp incorporate 4 and 5 ‘bends’ respectively to give structure and form to the lamps. The tube bending was visualized digitally and designed around readily available die sets for repeatability on a simple manual bender. Extending the linearity of these lamps, a slender fixture and bulb are used along with a 3D printed shade which subtly blends into the steel tube. The shades are printed from a flexible nylon material and are easily removable.
