I was fortunate to be able to take part in CCA and Santa Clara’s Solar Decathlon project ‘Refract House’ a few years ago. Since then CCA recently put out a book compiling some of the process involved as well as a series of essays on pertinent topics. I contributed (along with Oblio Jenkins) an essay entitled ‘Material Asemblies’ on the importance of hands-on learning and 1:1 mach-ups as part of the reciprocal feed-back loop in designing architecture.
