Descriptive geometry + Projected views
In the past I’ve taught VDM 1 (Visual and Digital Media) at CCA. While still done as hand-drafted investigations, the main focus is on the fundamentals of understanding geometrical relationships and spatial representation. As such, there isn’t much time to really get into dissecting the processes involved in projecting views via inclined planes, etc. I knew the ‘rules’ and understood the premise of rotating about rotation lines/axes, but I really didn’t have full comprehension of how the ‘rules’ played out spatially. After coming across some inspiring drawings by Danny Wills from Cooper Union, I did a study illustrating all the mechanics/relationships in a simple projected views drawing….actually I modeled the whole ‘apparatus’ in rhino (after all I was trying to get at a three-dimensional understanding) and these are simply representations pulled from that model.
